I have not yet watched Star Trek Discovery, but I may need to for many, many reasons.
One of these reasons is my raging crush on Jason Isaacs, which was made worse by hearing him call out racists and bigots who have a problem with the lead of that show being a young black woman.
The thing I don’t get about these assholes screaming about SJWs ruining Star Trek, is…
Where the fuck have you been? What have you been watching?
The original Star Trek had a black woman in a prominent position on the BRIDGE OF THE SHIP (Nyota Uhura, played by Nichelle Nichols). It had a Japanese actor in a main role (Hikaru Sulu, played by George Takei). It had a Russian character at the height of the Cold War (Pavel Andreievich Chekov, played by Walter Koenig).
Star Trek had the first interracial kiss between a white man and black woman on network television in the US.
Star Trek was written with aliens that were, for the most part, very human looking so that it would be harder for the audience to de-humanize them in cases of conflict. Gene Roddenberry did that on purpose.
So, we have a show that from its inception in the 1960s had an interracial cast, had one of the first interracial kisses on television, in particular US Network television, and was specifically written to avoid the dehumanization of the alien races in it.
I hate to tell you guys this, but you’re about 50 years too late to be whining about SJWs ruining your Star Trek.
DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW STUPID YOU SOUND?
Sorry. Just had to get that out of my system.
I mean, yeah, the ensuing series have not always been as true to the message of the original series as they could be, but they have nearly always managed to hang on to at least the bare bones of the original, intended, messaging. There have been black Commanders (Commanding Officer Benjamin Sisko), there have been female commanders (Captain Kathryn Janeway).
It’s about fucking time that we had a black female Captain/Commander in the Star Trek universe.
And shouting about how SJWs are invading “your” Star Trek is ridiculous in the extreme.
The show was written by 1960s SJWs.
Get over it.
And don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
