Yes, I know, I’m late to the game here. As I’ve said before, I don’t go to movies all that often for a couple of reasons. The foremost being my desperate urge to choke a lot of my fellow movie-goers for rude, clueless and obnoxious behavior. So the Geek Husband What Rules and I Netflixed Wolverine the other night.
Now, we’d heard from various people that it was awful. As a result, we went in with no expectations whatsoever… and really, really enjoyed it.
First, the totally superficial fangirl squeeing:
ZOMG!!!! LIEV SCHREIBER!! HUGH JACKMAN NAKED IN A BARN!! TAYLOR KITSCH!!!
Ahem…
I enjoyed it a great deal. Yeah, the plot was a little thin in places if you looked too close. And I won’t claim it was as good as either of the first two X-men films. Although, I feel it was definitely superior to X-men 3 (thanks Singer, for jumping ship to make Superman). But the use of CGI wasn’t too egregious.
My biggest complaint was the messing with Deadpool’s origin. Granted, the crack about Stryker finding a way shut him up was pretty funny. But still…
However, it is the Marvel Multiverse, so if you don’t like something, wait two years, they’ll retcon.
But overall, I found the movie entertaining. The men were hot, the explosions were big, Hugh Jackman was naked… Really, that’s all I’m looking for in a comic book movie.
I’m very much looking forward to the new X-men First Class movie, regardless of the fact that the line-up they’re going with isn’t even remotely close to the original X-men line up. But, again… Multiverse….
This review made me happy inside!
