Geek Girls Rule! #263 – Why I’m Not Just Getting Over It, Already. (aka more Dickwolves bullshit)

Yeah, just imagine all my words in this angry little balloon.
Yeah, just imagine all my words in this angry little balloon.

Ok, dudes, fucking seriously?  Not Getting Over It.

I have, in the past two days been told that I should just get over the Dickwolves thing, that there are more important things for me to worry my pretty little head over, and that nothing’s going to change so why bother?  There have been “boycotts don’t do anything” arguments, and “boycotts are anti-capitalist” arguments. The array of arguments over why I shouldn’t be talking about something that makes some dudes feel icky in their tummy regions is truly staggering.  It really and truly is.

Look, no matter how icky my talking about rape and rape culture, about how your jokes about rape and yes, the Dickwolves bullshit, normalizes rape and gives cover to rapists makes you feel?

You can’t possibly feel as awful as I did after I was raped.

I’m going to let that sink in.  While all of you have been bleating on about all this shit, which mostly boils down to “I don’t want to talk about things that make me feel uncomfortable!” just remember, I wasn’t offered a choice to avoid the little slice of heaven that was losing my virginity to a rapist.

The other thing to consider here, is that you guys, as I noted in the post on sexual harassment at conventions, are giving cover to the rapists among you.  Because they’re out there.  And every time you wear a Team Dickwolves shirt, or laugh at a rape joke that makes its punchline at the expense of the victim and NOT the rapist, you give cover to these sociopathic fucks.

No, I don’t think you’re all rapists.  Research demonstrates that the majority of rapes are committed by a relatively small segment of the population, who are repeat offenders.  Who rape because that’s what they like.  I think most of you lack empathy and are blind to the realities of what life is like for women.  I’m hoping you’ll eventually outgrow that.

And if you are one of that small segment of rapists?  Fuck you. Die in a fucking fire.  I mean it.

I’ve also been told I shouldn’t be so angry, or vehement.  Fuck you.  I get to be angry, because this shit is a fucking toxin and it’s poisoning my subculture.  Yes, it’s my subculture, too.  I get to be angry because you assholes don’t have the wherewithal to pull your heads out of your asses for one fucking second and take a whiff of air.  Because according to everything I’m reading, asking you not to make rape jokes is, to you, the equivalent of another human being forcing a part of their body inside of you against your will.

Read that again and see how fucking stupid it sounds.

“According to everything I’m reading, asking you not to make rape jokes is, to you, the equivalent of another human being forcing a part of their body inside of you against your will.”

Because that’s all I hear right now.

Rape victims are not an abstract.  We’re here and your actions impact us.  Honestly, for the most part, if you think you don’t know any women who’ve been raped or sexually assaulted, it’s more realistic that you don’t know any women who trust you enough to tell you that.  Well, I’m telling you that.  The LOW estimate of women raped in our culture is 1 in 6.  Given the sheer numbers of women and men I know who have been raped or otherwise sexually assaulted, that figure is really fucking low.  Most rape victims never report because shit like this makes reporting hostile to them.

So, congratulate yourselves on making life harder for rape victims, and I hope your friendly neighborhood rapist buys you a beer in thanks for all the good work you’re doing for him.

And I’m not shutting up any fucking time soon.  Get used to it.

Oh and I’d like to thank someone who can remain anonymous if he so wishes for the most hilarious argument to date:  that we can’t assume ALL Dickwolves would be rapists.

😐

We can’t assume that all of the fictional race of creatures created to be the embodiment of rape are all rapists.

blink blink

And doing so is like assuming all football players are rapists.

Ok, well, your analogy falls apart there, because both guys who raped me were football players. And no, I don’t assume all football players are rapists, but I am for damn sure going to be careful around anyone who chooses to steep themselves in that culture.

Nice try at bringing a fresh argument, though.  It was, in fact, the only one of your arguments that I hadn’t seen about a million fucking times before.

  1. I’m sorry. No one deserves to go through that. It wasn’t your fault and you deserve better, and are in no way “dirty/soiled”
